📰 At Parsons' 2025 BFA Runway Show, Students Put Their Own Spin on Current Trends

✨ Fashion Insights & Trends:

Year after year, fashion schools' student runway shows are praised for their displays of unlimited creativity. Attendees can expect to see a catwalk filled with conceptual and avant-garde designs, which can be a breath of fresh air amid increasingly commercialized fashion weeks. 

This spring, however, there's been a subtle shift: While some students are still producing fashion-forward, conceptual pieces, there's been a noticeable uptick of wearable ready-to-wear designs perfectly aligned with today's trends. This was true at Parsons 2025 BFA Runway Show, "A Common Thread." 

On Monday night in the former Barneys flagship in downtown Manhattan, 283 graduating students unveiled their thesis collections to an audience of professors, press, industry professionals, friends and family. The presentation comprised a wide array of ideas, all of which fit into one of the five concentrations design students can study: collection, fashion product, materiality, systems and society and phygital fashion.

Though designers pulled from various inspirations, a common thread (pun intended) among collections was an adherence to current trends. The abundant sheer dresses, western wear, sporty cues and utility gear showed that the next generation of fashion talent is aware of today's sartorial happenings and consumer preferences. 

But while the collections felt current in idea, they were still forward in execution. Students put their own flair in their output, via a unique mix of textile work, fabric manipulation and proportion play. The result was a fascinating exploration of how individuality can harmonize with contemporary proposals.
