The Department of Fashion Design offers the following degree programs:

Bachelor of Fine Arts: Fashion Design and Construction Pathway
Master of Fine Arts in Fashion, Body and Garment (2 and 3 year Tracks)

BFA in Studio: Fashion Design and Construction Pathway

The undergraduate Fashion pathway curriculum consists of a scaffolded sequence of co-taught design and construction courses over the course of the sophomore, junior and senior levels, providing a firm foundation in design through drawing, draping, pattern-making and garment construction. In courses that combine historical research with contemporary explorations, students transcend the traditional boundaries of fashion to examine clothing as it relates to lifestyle, performance, display, costume and art.

Fashion Design Graduate Program: Two-Year MFA Track

SAIC's two-year MFA program is designed for students looking to build on their existing foundations and elevate their portfolios to new heights. This program encourages fashion students to push the boundaries of fashion design, work at a large scale and think expansively about their practices.

Fashion Design Graduate Program: Three-Year MFA Track

The three-year MFA program is designed to provide students a technical foundation for fashion design — from making patterns to learning essential construction techniques. With incoming students coming from a variety of experience and disciplinary backgrounds, this program offers an additional foundational year for the MFA in Fashion, Body & Garment, allowing students to develop and refine their fashion-related skill sets without having to start from scratch in an undergraduate program.
