📰 The Stylish Person's Guide to Los Angeles, by Miaou's Alexia Elkaim

✨ Fashion Insights & Trends:

The fashion and beauty industries are filled with interesting people from all over the world who have great taste — the types you can rely on for excellent travel recommendations. So, we're asking them about their favorite food, shopping and wellness spots in their cities. Consider this series your fashion and beauty person's guide to travel.

"My relationship with L.A. is pretty deep," Miaou founder Alexia Elkaim tells Fashionista. "I moved here from Paris when I was 6 years old, so I've been dancing between Parisian and Angeleno cultures since I was a kid." This dance has greatly informed her approach to designing for the brand — "that of wearing very little clothes and infusing a quirky French style in there, too," as she puts it.

Since launching in 2016 and quickly achieving Instagram virality, Miaou has remained a go-to for "It" girls, especially those of the West Coast variety — ladies like, say, Devon Lee Carlson and Gabbriette, who happen to star in the campaign for the label's inaugural collaboration with Adidas Originals, launching Tuesday. In images that could almost be outtakes from a Charli XCX music video, the internet-famous muses are seen wearing the motorsport-inspired collection while traversing the California desert in a convertible.

In honor of the launch, we tapped the Beachwood Canyon resident for her expert recommendations for where to eat, sleep, shop and more in and around L.A. (As an L.A. resident myself, I can confirm they're good — and chic.)

"Los Angeles is magical for its range," Elkaim explains. "You can wake up in the Hollywood Hills, go for a hike and cruise to the beach for an afternoon surf, stop and get oysters in Malibu, go back to Hollywood for a buzzy evening — a fun dinner or party. L.A. also offers you mornings, something I felt was missing in my life when I lived in NYC. You can really ease into whatever day you're about to have."

Below, the designer shares how have a very cool day, or several, in the city of angels. (Plus, bookmark the map below as a pre-made itinerary for your next trip.)

What food should everyone that goes to Los Angeles try?

I mostly eat for vibes — I'm not much of a foodie, so I opt for experience. I love Parks for Korean BBQ after a Korean spa session. In-N-Out burger for hangovers. All Time for weekend brunch. Jinpachi for amazing sushi and solo time at the bar. I'm also guilty of waiting in line for Courage Bagels on weekends because the salmon roe is so good with cream cheese.

What's your favorite place to get breakfast in Los Angeles?

All Time has an iconic breakfast sandwich. The Hollywood Farmers' Market has some great pastries, too.

What's your favorite place to get lunch in Los Angeles?

All Time's "Big Ass Salad." If I'm on the west side, I love the oysters at Broad Street Oyster Company.

What's your favorite place to get coffee in Los Angeles?

Community Goods! It's my good friend's spot and he's mastered all the best ingredients and, quite literally, the community. Makes the caffeine feel extra special.

What's your favorite place to get dinner in Los Angeles?

Stir Crazy is buzzy — fun vibe, nice wine. And they have small plates so it's perfect for Girl Dinners. I also love Lolo Wine Bar for a good steak and red wine.

If you were to plan a staycation for yourself in Los Angeles, where would you stay?

I would recommend staying in a house rather than a hotel… But if I had to choose, I'd pick the Sunset Tower because I love Paul Fortune, who designed it. He mastered dressing Californian spaces. The Bel Air Hotel is also very elegant if you don't mind driving.

What's the most unique place to shop that you frequent?

Replika Vintage. The best!

What's a good place to buy souvenirs in Los Angeles?

Anywhere on Hollywood Boulevard. I like the sex shops. The gas station on Crescent Heights and Sunset has some pretty classic trucker hats, too.

What's your top wellness experience in Los Angeles?

Pilanies Pilates in West Hollywood for the hardest and sexiest workout ever. After that, I'd go to Tomoko spa down the street in Beverly Hills for the best immersive experience into what feels like a Ryokan.

What's the best beach or pool in/around Los Angeles?

My backyard. I love to hang at First Point in Malibu, too. It's a fun surf beach.

What's your favorite day trip to take from Los Angeles?

Point Dume, Malibu!
