Back in 2022, Deciem (the Canada-based incubator behind Gen Z's favorite skin-care brand The Ordinary) discontinued The Chemistry Brand, along with HIF, Hylamide and Abnomaly. Nearly four years later, the company is relaunching The Chemistry Brand on April 2 with the return of its hero SKU, Hand Chemistry.
"The Chemistry Brand has always enjoyed a dedicated cult-following and even after the brand was discontinued, demand never truly faded," Amy Bi, Deciem's global vice president of brand, told Fashionista over email. "We've seen The Chemistry Brand popping up on resale platforms for extraordinary prices — which is honestly the ultimate testament to the brand's legacy and increasing demand."
Hand Chemistry, a concentrated multi-functional hand cream priced at $12, originally launched in 2013, and now the beloved science-backed formula is back. The hand treatment boasts a "six-active complex" that aims to improve firmness, elasticity, evenness, brightness, texture and smoothness. A 1% Biological GHK Complex promotes youthful-looking skin, a 5% Pseudoalteromonas Complex supports skin renewal and a 2% Plantago Lanceolata Complex prevents moisture loss. The formula also includes Tremella Fuciformis Qusome to create a protective shield on the skin for lasting moisture, Sacha Inchi Oil for a hydrated feel and 7.5% Maize Propanediol to maintain optimal hydration levels.

"Part of what made [Hand Chemistry] so iconic is simply how well it works," Bi shared. "The formula delivered such noticeable smoothing and brightening results that it started gaining viral attention, with some fans even applying it to their faces. While it was always designed specifically for hands, that kind of off-label enthusiasm says a lot about the formula's performance."
The Chemistry Brand isn't the first brand Deciem has given a second life to; in 2024, the company welcomed body-care brand Loopha back into its portfolio with three hand and body wash scents. Now, Loopha has expanded its product offering to include a travel-friendly Hand + Body Powder Wash and a Biomimetic Body Serum.
Deciem is currently focused on delivering The Chemistry Brand to both its established fanbase and a new generation of skin-care consumers. "As the leader and pioneer in science-led body care, we've refined based on lessons learned from our original line and look forward to focusing on Hand Chemistry — reintroducing the beloved formula to our Deciem portfolio and the many fans awaiting its return," Bi said.
Priced at $12 for 50ml and $20 for 100ml, Hand Chemistry will be available exclusively at thechemistrybrand.com on April 2.
