📰 Campillo Fall 2026 Is Less About Storytelling, More About the Customer

✨ Fashion Insights & Trends:

For his Fall 2026 collection, designer Patricio Campillo reflected heavily on identity and its connection to clothing.

"It's the dialogue between, what's the influence of our identity on our image and what's the influence of our image on our identity?" he told Fashionista backstage ahead of the show.

In past seasons, he prioritized storytelling. His Spring 2026 collection, for example, was inspired by how repetition takes shape in Mexican culture. This time around, Campillo kept the focus on the consumer. That led to an exercise in restraint while crafting the collection.

"[This collection] is a little bit more confident when it comes to thinking about the vision of the brand and thinking about the person who's wearing it and the Campillo customer," he explained. "What are they thinking, what are they feeling, what's the process behind making a choice on how they want to look? Before, it was much more about telling a story, and I think this season it's much more about who is wearing it."

This season, Campillo also collaborated with Mexican artisans to develop innovative uses of horsehair. "As an analogy to our main inspiration, we constructed suits very differently and approached tailoring very differently by first creating the structure and then covering it with the fabric," he explained. "So it's almost as if the fabric and garment are separate between each other."

As one of the Latin American designers on the New York Fashion Week calendar, Campillo's commitment to highlighting Mexican heritage couldn't come at a more crucial time. Latin communities continue to be the targets of aggressive ICE raids, approved by the Trump Administration. While Campillo's fall lineup isn't a direct response to the immigrant deportation chaos (save for the designer wearing an "Ice Out" pin), it's worth applauding any creative who dares to loudly spotlight Latin culture in this politically charged landscape.
