The last couple of fashion month seasons have felt ongoing processions of newly appointed creative directors making their debuts. On Friday, that honor belonged to Robert Rodriguez, who unveiled his vision for Derek Lam, marking the line's official relaunch after its namesake founder shuttered it in 2019.
"It was important for me to bring the Derek Lam brand to NYFW [...] because it was important to show the core of what the brand is and what it will be," he told Fashionista backstage before the presentation.
If there was one word to describe the brand's Fall 2026 collection, it would be versatility. The lineup comprises elevated essentials fit for the woman on the go, including button-downs with exaggerated funnel necklines; cinched, trench-style blazer tops and soft-tailored matching separates. Rodriguez incorporated a range of luxe fabrics, from suede to leather to fur. He explained that he was inspired by the diverse, multi-faceted nature of of Soho women.
"I grew up in Soho and lived there," he said. "I used to sit in a cafe and watch women pass by and for me it was very inspirational because they are very eclectic and there's also types of different women."
