📰 J. Press' NYFW Debut Spotlights Its Signature American Collegiate Style

With letterman jackets, collegiate regalia and dapper blazers galore, J. Press transported showgoers to a high-fashion Ivy League campus for the final day of NYFW.

For its NYFW runway debut, J. Press paid homage to "Take Ivy," a 1965 anthology of Ivy League style photographed by Teruyoshi Hayashida. J. Press (which was founded at Yale University in 1902) is widely credited with creating the "Ivy League look" that so many American designers have latched onto: Think straight-leg trousers, pinstriped button-downs, twill jackets and leather loafers all coordinating with the Ivy's school colors.

"Ivy style is having such a moment right now on the runway, and so many designers and brands are adapting it and reinterpreting it, but J. Press is really the origin of this look and the book 'Take Ivy' documents that," J. Press Creative Director and President Jack Carlson told Fashionista ahead of the label's show. "J. Press to this day is the keeper of the flame and we're still making a majority of our products in the U.S. and I wanted to really take ownership of our role as the standard bearer for the classic American Ivy look."

Carlson has long been entrenched in the American prep universe, as he founded menswear brand Rowing Blazers in 2017 before selling it to Burch Creative Capital in 2024. Before that, the University of Oxford alum also formerly served as a member of the U.S. rowing team.

Staged at The New York Historical on the Upper West Side (a rather befitting location for the architect of American prep), the Spring 2026 show simulated the real-life characters inhabiting college campuses as models walked down the runway with textbooks, trumpets, bicycles and rowing oars. Whether off to a humanities lecture or rowing practice, models embodied collegiate style in vintage-inspired sweaters, handkerchief-adorned sport coats and striped ties.
