As a former professional-snowboarder-turned-beauty-entrepreneur, Nima Jalali traded snow-covered slopes for the skin-care industry. After years of exposure to harsh weather, Jalali struggled to find a balance between efficacious body-care formulas and luxurious scent profiles, so he decided to take matters into his own hands by launching Salt & Stone in 2017.

Today, Salt & Stone is a one of the top-performing body-care brands at Sephora and was projected to bring in revenue north of $140 million for 2025. This year, it's translating its nature-inspired scents into the body oil category with new seaweed extract-infused launches, Santal & Vetiver and Bergamot & Hinoki, available now on Sephora.

In conversation with Catie Pusateri on The Fashionista Network, Jalali also discussed Salt & Stone's scent formulation process, the biggest lessons he's learned from building a buzzy beauty brand and his winning collaboration strategy. Recent partnerships include a Lily & Yuzu scent with Aritzia and a Leather & Desert Grass scent with Los Angeles-based label Cherry.

"I don't really look at it as a business strategy, I look at collaborations as fun," Jalali explained. "Obviously there's a business benefit to it, and you get new eyes on the brand and there's sales involved, but for me, the whole point of it is to have fun with it and to obviously spread awareness, but the marketing piece of it is so fun."

Looking ahead, Salt & Stone is focused on expanding its global presence and entering physical retail with its first brick-and-mortar store in New York City later this year.
