Los Angeles-based brand T3 is a major player in the hair tools category, and it's been one for the better part of the last two decades. Co-founder Julie Chung and her husband/co-founder launched the company in 2004 after identifying a gap in the market, she recapped during an interview on The Fashionista Network.

What does it take for an independent, self-funded brand to not only last for 20 years —but actually thrive — despite growing competition from massive businesses like Shark and Dyson? For Chung, the secret to long-term success has been consistency and sticking to the company's original mission.

"From the beginning, [Chung's co-founder and husband] Kent never wanted to give away equity, he wanted to be in full control," she shared. "Looking back, maybe if we did raise money, we'd be double the size, maybe we'd be triple the size. But it's just something that felt right for us."

On The Fashionista Network, Chung discussed T3's trajectory, how its retail partnerships and brand collaborations have helped the business grow, how the hair tools category has changed over the years and more. Watch the full interview on YouTube or listen on Spotify Podcasts below.

Fashionista's audience includes 1 million site visitors, 110,000 newsletter subscribers and 4.74 million social media followers. Want to know how to reach them? Learn more.
