Sofie Pavitt is one of New York City’s most sought-after facialists, and that’s not just because she’s a certified miracle worker for those with acne. (The last time I visited the esthetician’s studio, I witnessed her receiving a wedding invitation from a bride client whose skin she’d helped clear up — that’s how beloved she is.) Pavitt is also known for serving up honest, unfiltered beauty advice rooted in the knowledge she’s gained from spending years in-studio with clients and developing products for her eponymous skin-care brand, Sofie Pavitt Face.
So of course we had to hit up the expert for our tell-us-everything skin-care series, Face It. A few takeaways from Pavitt’s Q&A? There’s one (extremely!) common beauty trend she considers to be a “grift,” a type of laser facial she thinks is basically pointless — but another that’s a miracle worker, especially for acne-prone skin types. She also shared some surprising — and potentially controversial — thoughts on how often we should all be washing our faces.
In our interview, Pavitt also let Fashionista in on some products she swears by, including the physical exfoliating scrub she recommends (“scrubs have been unfairly vilified,” she attests) and the skin-care item she steals from her kids (yes, you read that correctly).
