LVMH Sees Growth Accelerate in Second Quarter

LVMH's fashion and leather goods unit ended a two-year decline in the second quarter, with sales rising 1% as Dior's relaunch under Jonathan Anderson began to pay off. Overall, group revenue climbed 3% to €38.6 billion ($44 billion) for the first half of the year, beating analyst forecasts, thanks to strong performances from Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Sephora. Currency pressures still weighed on the bottom line, though, pushing profit down 4% to €8.7 billion ($9.9 billion) even as the business itself showed signs of improvement. {LVMH}

Burberry Marks 170 Years With V&A Show

Burberry and The Victoria and Albert Museum will open a free exhibition, "The Burberry Trench: Crafting an Icon," running Sept. 21 through Jan. 3 at V&A South Kensington to mark the fashion house's 170th anniversary. The show traces the coat's evolution from Thomas Burberry's 1879 invention of cotton gabardine through its rise as a global style staple, drawing on rare pieces from both the Burberry Archive and the V&A's holdings, including 19 runway looks from past creative directors Christopher Bailey and Daniel Lee. {Fashionista inbox}

Johnson & Johnson to Pay $5.5 Billion in Talc Settlement

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has agreed to pay $5.5 billion to settle talc litigation that claimed its baby powder caused ovarian cancer, a deal that hinges on at least 95% of plaintiffs in roughly 76,000 pending cases agreeing to join. The settlement comes after a favorable court ruling and a $966 million verdict against the company last October, the largest awarded to a single plaintiff in the litigation. "This resolution allows the Company to put this matter behind it and remain focused on its mission to develop medicines and devices that save lives," J&J Worldwide Vice President of Litigation Erik Haas said in a statement. The company still insists its products never contained asbestos. {Johnson & Johnson}
