How the Paris Protests Are Impacting French Retailers
As the protests in Paris escalate, rioting and looting have erupted amid the chaos. Looters have targeted French storefronts, including Lacoste, the Galeries Lafayette department store, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Celine. The French government and law enforcement are still figuring out how to subdue the protesters. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}
Vogue Business Reveals Its Size Inclusivity Report
The Spring 2027 season had a slight 0.2% improvement in curve model representation compared to last season, according to Vogue Business’ Size Inclusivity Report. “Of 9,283 looks presented across 219 shows and presentations, 97.5% were straight-size (US 0-4), 2% were mid-size (US 6-12), and 0.5% were plus-size (US 14+),” the report revealed. London had the most size-inclusive runways, with 0.5% of looks being plus-size (down from 0.8% last season), while Milan had the least curve representation, with just 0.1% of looks being plus-size. The report credits fashion’s ongoing size regression to growing conservatism, the return of “heroin chic” aesthetics and consumers’ accelerated use of GLP-1. {Vogue Business/paywalled}
Patrick Ta Sues CVS
Patrick Ta Beauty (PTB) has accused CVS and distributor Akstrom Imports of marketing and selling unauthorized products bearing the PTB trademark in its stores. The beauty brand is suing the company and its supplier over trademark infringement and misleading advertising. PTB is asking for permanent injunctive relief, destruction of the marked goods and (an undisclosed amount of) monetary damages. {Beauty Independent/paywalled}
Why Brands Are Steering Away From Discounting Products
As major retailers and online marketplaces welcome heavy discounting as a way to draw in customers, the strategy has made it difficult for smaller brands that sell at full price to compete. At the Glossy & Modern Retail Leaders Dinner, a few fashion and beauty executives revealed they are actively moving away from year-round heavy discounting and training their customers to not expect marked-down products. Too much discounting is not a profitable business strategy, one of the fashion leaders said. Instead, brands should offer exclusive discounts to loyalty members. {Glossy/paywalled}
Mazarine Founder Buys Back Majority Stake
Paul-Emmanuel Reiffers, founder and chief executive officer of French creative consulting group Mazarine, has bought back a majority stake in his company from private equity backers. He now owns 86% of Mazarine. The financial terms of the deal were not revealed. Reiffers’ decision to regain ownership was driven by his desire to invest in global expansion. {WWD/paywalled}
